Sweet Apple                   香甜的蘋果

At the end of the bough!                  在樹枝的末端!
At the top of the tree!                     在樹頂!
—As fragrant, as high                     那樣芬芳，那樣成熟——
And as lovely, as thou—                   那樣可愛，如同妳——
One sweet apple reddens,                 一顆香甜的蘋果變嬌紅豔麗，
Which all men may see,                   全部的人都可看見，

Swinging full to the view!                在眼前搖盪一清二楚!  
Though the harvesters now              雖然採收者現在

史蒂芬斯 (James  Stephens),小說家兼詩人， 1882年2月9日出生於愛爾蘭的首府都柏林，以擅長新編愛爾蘭神仙故事、軼聞著名，其新編故事結合罕見的幽默與抒情。在著名詩人AE (George William Russell)指導之下，他於1909年出版第一本詩集《起義》(Insurrections)。喬易斯 (James Joyce) 撰寫其艱難晦澀的《費尼根守靈記》(Finnegans Wake)時，曾考慮找史蒂芬斯合作，但終未成真。晚年，史蒂芬斯於英國廣播公司的系列廣播中找到新觀眾。他於1950年12月26日辭世。
